Save Time and Money by Outsourcing Endpoint Provisioning and Management

The average enterprise manages 135,000 endpoint devices, according to a 2022 report from the Ponemon Institute. Despite this enormous volume, most organizations continue to provision and manage endpoints manually.

Technicians often spend hours provisioning a single device, and ongoing administration and support add further operational overhead. Organizations must dedicate significant resources to this effort — resources that could be allocated to tasks that are more valuable to the business. Meanwhile, users sit idle while their devices are configured, updated or repaired.

Efficient endpoint management requires a dedicated team of experts, well-defined processes, strong vendor relationships and investments in automated tools. While organizations can implement this in-house, many choose to outsource to a qualified provider such as DeSeMa. DeSeMa delivers a comprehensive suite of endpoint provisioning and management services for a fixed monthly fee, reducing operational overhead, increasing IT and user productivity, and enhancing endpoint device security.

Relief for Manual Deployment Headaches

In the typical organization, devices are procured from the hardware manufacturer and shipped to the organization’s warehouse. A field service technician must image and configure each device, which could take three or four hours if no problems arise. The technician must then box up the device and drop ship it to the user. In some cases, the technician will have to go onsite to install the device and transfer the user’s data, which could take another hour or two.

Some organizations have experimented with sending devices directly to users, but users will often delay implementation because they assume it will require a lot of work and downtime. The device may sit unused for weeks, during which time the warranty clock is ticking and the investment isn’t delivering value.

DeSeMa’s endpoint managed service eliminates these headaches. We have embedded relationships with Microsoft and the major OEMs that enable us to configure devices remotely and drop-ship them directly from the manufacturer to users. When the user turns it on the device, it will provision itself completely right out of the box.

Zero-Touch Provisioning, Greater Security

Automatic enrollment enables large-scale, zero-touch deployments while ensuring that every device is configured according to the organization’s requirements. The device contacts the mobile device management (MDM) platform, which determines the settings and applications to be pushed out to the device. Technicians save hours of time, and users are productive immediately.

This process also provides very strong security. The device is bound to your organization — the serial number of each device is associated with the company that purchases it and automatically enrolled in the mobile device management system. If someone steals that endpoint, they cannot attach it to another network, even if they wipe the disk.

Users can be onboarded the same way whether they use a company-owned or personal device. Policies that govern what applications and data the user is authorized to access can be applied to any device without taking over the entire device.

Multiple Options

Organizations can purchase their endpoint devices as they normally do, and have DeSeMa provision and manage them. We also have a program that allows your organization to lease endpoints directly from us, and we will manage and support these endpoints across their entire lifecycle for a fixed monthly price.

We can do the same thing for fleet-managed cell phones. The phone is shipped to the user, who takes a picture of a QR code. The device reads the QR code and knows what environment it’s supposed to be a part of. It then connects to the network, joins your platform and provisions all of the applications and settings that user should have. We manage the data plan so that you get a bulk rate, and manage the device itself like other endpoints.

In our next post, we’ll take a deeper dive into DeSeMa’s ongoing management of your endpoint devices.
